The other day I mentioned that I am helping a friend decorate their nursery. The kicker...they are not going to find out the sex of the baby! We must be cut from the same cloth. My husband and I didn't find out what our babies were either. The surprise is such great fun!
So, what does this mean for the nursery? In most cases such as these you would go completely neutral, and that's how it will start for us too. However, it will not remain this way.
The base color palette for the nursery is gray and yellow per request of mom. There were a couple of things that had already been purchased that was incorporated into the design, i.e. a crib and a large piece of art.
So with those things in mind I created a mock up of a potential girl room AND boy room for the baby. This is where neutral becomes not so neutral.
Here is the potential girls room. The crib, Serengeti art, and chair are items already owned. The chair was actually an awesome score. I originally had mom looking for a second hand Ikea Poang rocking chair. Unfortunately, our used Ikea merchandise on Craigslist is pretty minimal here in Spokane, so when this beauty popped up, that looked incredibly similar, it was a must have.
And the potential boy nursery. (My bets are on a boy!)
Before the baby is born, everything that falls into the neutral category will be ready to go. After the baby is born everything either boy or girl will be put in place. This will mainly consist of a few fabric items, accessories, side table, etc. as you can see.
Here's another little mock up of what we would like to do along the dresser wall. The baskets were all mom's idea and they will make the perfect place for toy storage.
This nursery will consist of a lot of DIY projects and budget friendly design. The art work in the mock up is a great inspiration for what will go in the room and all the fabric items will be custom sewn by yours truly. (Unless I teach mom how to sew...another fun project!)
